SUMMARY:Trinity CRC Stream Team's Annual Spring Survey on Rush Creek
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Trinity CRC Stream Team\, located at O-60 Port Sheldon Rd\, in Grandville\, is involved in macro invertebrate studies as part of a grant from MiCorp\, an organization that works with the Michigan DEQ in enlisting volunteer organizations to help monitor the health of streams and lakes in Michigan. Macro invertebrate surveys are one way that stream health is measured. Volunteers will be meeting at Trinity CRC at 9:00 on the morning of Saturday\, May 5th to do our annual spring survey. After a brief time of instruction about MiCorp protocol for doing macro invertebrate surveys and habitat surveys\, we will divide into 5 groups\, each group having a trained leader\, and gather our gear and head out in groups to 5 different sites on Rush Creek. At the sites\, the group will take up the tasks involved in collecting and sorting different types of macro invertebrates found in the creek. The group will also spend some time assessing the state of the habitat at their particular site location. After this outdoor work is done\, we will gather back at Trinity\, have a little lunch together\, and then work together on further sorting\, identifying\, and counting the macro invertebrates. The plan is to wrap this all up by 3:00. Volunteers need only bring themselves\, and no prior experience is required. There is no charge for this event.
